'Tis the Season for a Digital Fireplace

This time of the year (at least for those of us living on the Northern hemisphere) is a wonderful time of the year to own a fireplace. They're great for snuggling up close to and warming up those cold feet and hands after shoveling some snow. A fireplace is also great for creating a warm atmosphere. Not just warm as in temperature, but it helps to create a peaceful ambiance in the room.

Unfortunately, not all of us have a fireplace in their home. This is where we can enlist the help of technology. Yup, you heard me... technology! Here's how to create your very own digital fireplace.

All you need in order to create your very own digital fireplace (I'll call it an "iFireplace") is a TV with an Apple TV connected to it. If you have a Netflix account, search their library for "fireplace", and you'll run across a title called "Fireplace for the Home". Simply play this 2-hour long video of a crackling, wood-burning fire, and you have just added instant warmth to your home or office (ambiance warmth, not temperature warmth... TV isn't that advanced yet).  You'll notice that there are several versions of the video. If you like Christmas music, be sure to choose one that includes music.

Don't have a Netflix account? Don't worry. You can still enjoy this same awesome iFireplace by using YouTube instead. Rather than searching Netflix, search Apple TV's built-in YouTube app for a good fireplace looping video. While the quality doesn't stack up against the HD video you'll find on Netflix, there is a pretty good selection to choose from.
