A Peek Inside Kevin's Office

To me, an office is a very personal space. In my case, I like to think that a lot of good happens here, so I really need it to be not only highly-efficient, but inspiring. When I walk in, I want it to feel like I want to be there so that as I settle in for the day, I can work in a positive environment with the right tools and the right mindset. With that in mind, allow me to take you on a brief tour of my office!

For those who know me personally, my office is located in the Zions Bank building in beautiful downtown Provo, UT. It’s the epicenter for a lot of the local clients we work with in the Utah area and it’s reasonably close to a lot of good restaurants, shops, etc.

As you enter my office, the first thing you will see is my desk. This is my world. The is central to everything I do and everything else is ancillary to this, including artwork on the walls. On my desk, you will see several key pieces of hardware, described below.

My laptop of choice (hidden behind my display)… the 14” Apple MacBook Pro. With the M1 system-on-a-chip (current models now offer the M2 SOC), 32 GB memory and a whopping 4 TB SSD, this is no only powerful enough to throw everything I have at it, but it has enough onboard storage to keep just about everything I have. I could upgrade to an 8 TB SSD, but for another $1,100 US, it’s not worth it.

For my display, I use a Dell 38” ultra wide display. I almost always have multiple (many multiples) windows open at any given time, so having a large display like this is a must. I could do two smaller displays, but I find the bezel between them distracting.

That little tiny camera on top of my display? That’s the Insta360 Link... honestly, the best webcam I’ve ever used! It features a 3-axis gimbal and a 4K camera, with LOTS of controls via software.

Next up is my phone (which you can’t see in this picture because it took the picture). I use an Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max with 512 GB storage. I LOVE this phone! Need I say more?

You’ll also notice in the above picture an 11” iPad Pro. If my laptop isn’t within arm’s reach, my iPad is. This is an incredibly powerful device for lots of different things, as you can imagine. Some creative ways that I use mine… as a second display for my laptop on the go as well as sharing slide decks while on Zoom calls (so that I can keep my primary display focus on what matters most… seeing people’s faces.

Off to the side, you will notice a 55” QLED display on the wall. This is great for displaying media via Apple TV, but it also doubles as a Zoom Room (not just for Zoom calls but for giving demos to clients).

What you can’t see off to the right side is my scanner (ScanSnap iX500) and off to the left side is my printer (HP Color Laser MX555). These are workhorses and I can’t imagine my workflow without them!

Lastly, my art. I have several piece of art in my office that help evoke the right feeling, including prints of various places around Maui (taken either on my iPhone or my DJI drone) as well as an old Apple iMac with the LED display removed to show its insides.
